Funky Weather

It was bitter cold this week with funky weather.  It rained, snowed, and much more.  On Sunday we had freezing rain which we couldn't scrape off of our windows so we just drove with very little visibility.  Fun Fun.

My companion is so trunky!!! He is so ready to go home it's hilarious.

We went on exchanges with other missionaries. That was overall fun.  We were able to teach and get work done in the freezing cold.

Yesterday we went to a soccer game to support our Investigator's, Nicole, daughter.  That was a fun thing to do.  We think it really made a difference for her and showed that we actually cared about her and her family.

We went to the temple with Tyler for the first time.  He was baptised 3 weeks ago and we were able to go to the temple to do baptisms for his family.  There were so many things that could have stopped us but we were guarded.  The roads were slick and the driver wasn't too good but we survived barely.  It was a great experience. The other cool thing was that I saw members from the Cleveland 3rd ward.  That was nice.  I also was able to do most of the work that goes on.  I marked the papers.  Just a lot of fun.

We also had zone conference this week. It was good.

"For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace." Isaiah 9:6
A way to remember it from our Branch President: There were actually 4 wise men.  One of them was hard of hearing and another was Italian.  The Italian wise man picks up the baby and says "It's a heavy baby." The deaf one says "what?" "I said ah heavy baby" "How much?" "About a nine pounds a six ounces"
Just one of those stupid funny ways to remember it.

The weather outside is frightful

It snowed!!!  It has snowed here but there isn't nearly as much as Kirtland.  We went to Kirtland last night with Kyle hoping to help him in his life. It was a fun trip and all.  they have 32 inches of snow up there and they keep getting more. I got to see people I haven't seen in a long time but I feel that that didn't help Kyle at all.  It just was another thing.

Also yesterday Nicole and Dom came to church.  I, once again, was playing with Dom during sacrament meeting but not as much as last time.  This time he would cheat on me so I pointed it out to him and it just was funny.  Nicole feels like she is getting more from the lessons we are teaching her this time.  Hopefully they will continue to build their faith unto baptism.

This week I also had the wonderful opportunity to walk everywhere on exchanges.  It was so much fun.  We were with the other elders in our ward and I was stuck walking.  I haven't walked that much in a long time.  The next day I totally could feel it.  So blessed to have a car.  Anyways, we were able to teach this member referral named Sandy.  She is an active church goer at another church but we taught the Restoration and she said it made sense.  No confusion or nothing.  It was awesome.

The scriptures that I am trying to apply in my life:
41 No power or influence can or ought to be maintained by virtue of the priesthood, only by persuasion, by long-suffering, by gentleness and meekness, and by love unfeigned;
42 By kindness, and pure knowledge, which shall greatly enlarge the soul without hypocrisy, and without guile—
 43 Reproving betimes with sharpness, when moved upon by the Holy Ghost; and then showing forth afterwards an increase of love toward him whom thou hast reproved, lest he esteem thee to be his enemy;

Christmas Conference

Well this week has gone by really fast.

I have been sick with the cold this week so not fun but I am feeling better.

We had exchanges with the assistants this week.  That was so much fun.  I got to ride in the new Rav4 that has an auto pilot features.  Super cool.  Anyways we found a new investigator from that exchange.  We were driving to our appointment and had an impression to tract on some houses.  There were no parking spots near site and so we had to walk in the cold.  It being an exchange you never pack all that you need that day so I froze. It was worth it though.  We got into a house and taught the Restoration.  They were so prepared at that time.

We had Christmas Conference on Tuesday which is where the whole mission goes to the Kirtland temple.  That was fun but I forgot my camera.  I had all the intent but didn't pull through.

I think that is about it for the week.

"Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid." Matthew 5:14

Dearest Gloria,
I forgot to tell you that we saw Zach at the Christmas missionary conference yesterday. We all had a good dinner at the stake center & saw pictures of the missionaries & President Brown spoke  We saw the video clip of Light the World.  Then we went to the Kirtland Temple where they had a great program of congregational singing Christmas carols, many groups of missionaries in different zones singing Christmas songs, intermingled with testimonies. Karl also was one of those bearing testimony. Then finally President & Sister Brown spoke & the area authority from here.  Afterwards we had our picture taken with Zach & President Brown.

Light the World

As I hope all of you already know the Christmas initiative is out and ready to go forth.  It starts Dec 1 and goes til Dec 25.  The video is awesome and is found on mormon.org.  It is one of the new ways we are to find people to teach.  We are also supposed to serve people each and every day during this season as well.

This last week has been a good week.  We had 2 Thanksgiving dinners and I once again realised how much I am going to love making tacos on Thanksgiving.  Turkey is good and all but Tacos are so much better.  We were stuffed by the end of the night.

Tyler was baptised and it was so spiritual.  When he bore his testimony after just being baptised it was a teary one.  He knew that this church was true and all.  He was so prepared to receive the gospel. He was found while tracting and since then has been on fire.  So cool!!!  Also some of his family came to church.  His mother who we are going to try to start teaching and also his great grandparents.  His great grandpa served in WW2.  He was on the beaches of Italy at the age of 18.  He also has been married to his wife for 71 yrs.  He was talking about how he is still as madly in love with her now as he was back then.

We met with Kyle this week.  He is also a YSA member like Tyler.  He was found last year and really hasn't gone anywhere.  He read the whole Book of Mormon and loved the end of Moroni.  The sad thing is that he is in an environment that isn't the best for him.  His friends and family are bad examples to him and so he follows in their footsteps.  Every time we meet with him he also smells like beer (fun fact about Elder Vance is that he doesn't like the smell of beer). He came to church yesterday and had that smell on his breath.  It is just sad to see him in that situation that we cannot really help him with.

So being in the Easthill YSA branch I meet people who I might have ran across in the Rootstown ward.  I met one such individual yesterday.  Kyle from the ward spoke at the branch.  The awesome thing is that he decided to go on a mission and he is going to Cambodia.  I actually remember taking him out teaching with us back about 1 yr ago.

We also have another person from the branch leaving on a mission.  Courtney is going to the Boise Idaho mission.  She is a convert of about 1 yr and has decided to go devote her time to the Lord.  We are helping her get prepared.

Also at church yesterday we had Nicole and her 2 sons there.  One was a little baby and the other one was about 7ish. During sacrament meeting I was playing (tic tac toe and sorts) with the little kid to keep him entertained.  It just was so much fun!!!  It helped me developed charity towards little kids again.  I have been having a lot harder time with that recently and that was an answer to prayers.

The last person to report about is Phyllis.  Her daughter is a member but she is not.  We are trying to help her come to know that this is true.  Raised Southern Baptists and so she is very Bible.  This last week she told us that she can't believe the Book of Mormon because it's exactly like the Bible.  There is nothing different in it.  She claims she prayed about it but didn't receive an answer.  The thing that she is not doing is putting forth her end.  She is not reading the Book of Mormon with real intent or with a sincere heart. It's just really frustrating to figure out how to help her progress.

The adventurous thing we ate this week was a dinner with a theme of sweet potatoes.  We had a sweet potato mush with plum, brown sugar, and I think pecans, we had sweet potato noki which is a breaded sweet potato, and we had sweet potato fries.  For dessert we had apple pie.

So the last thing I just want to leave with the quote "choose faith over fear".  We has someone speak in the YSA branch yesterday about a serious car accident she was in.  She talked about how she doesn't do to well when she drives past the accident spot and how she is afraid it happens again.  I felt that this applied to me.  She continue to talk about how she has to put faith that all will be well and faith that God is watching over her and that she can be healed from this incident.

I have recently been studying Laman and Lemuel at the beginning of 1 Nephi. It's just amazing how hard hearted they really are. This scripture I ran across today:
"Ye are swift to do iniquity but slow to remember the Lord your God. Ye have seen an angel, and he spake unto you; yea, ye have heard his voice from time to time; and he hath spoken unto you in a still small voice, but ye were past feeling, that ye could not feel his words; wherefore, he has spoken unto you like unto the voice of thunder, which did cause the earth to shake as if it were to divide asunder." 1 Nephi 17:45

Well happy Thanksgiving to all.

I am in Tallmadge.  I have parts of Akron and am back in the hood.  It's a good experience for me to be back in it.

My companion is awesome. Elder Gallegos.  I am going to kill him by the end of this transfer.

We are teaching a guy named Tyler. He is getting baptised this Saturday which is exciting!!!

Really this last week I have been busy with meetings. 8 hrs of church again. Traveling to Cleveland for CAT scans and all that fun stuff.

Otherwise there is nothing.  I still get a lot of "How are you doing?" questions and it just makes me laugh.

This week I will make a more mental note of what to send for all of y'all next week for email.

"That ye contend no more against the Holy Ghost, but that ye receive it, and take upon you the name of Christ; that ye humble yourselves even to the dust, and worship God, in whatsoever place ye may be in, in spirit and in truth; and that ye live in thanksgiving daily, for the many mercies and blessings which he doth bestow upon you." Alma 34:38

Well transfers are here once again and turns out I'm leaving again.  I served in Massillon a total of 5 weeks. Such a short time to be in an area but now I'm going up to Tallmadge and also the YSA branch. Super stoked.

These last two weeks have been good ones.

Michael prayed about he Book of Mormon and he received an answer!!! He shot us a text out of the blue that said "Yes..". We had no idea what it meant and actually thought that he just accidentally sent it.  We met with him and learned that that was the answer he got from praying about the Book of Mormon.  The Spirit was so strong.  We are now working with him to be able to read daily and to not sleep in on Sunday's so he can come to church.  He came once and loved it but recently he hasn't woken up to come these last times.

Other than that, nothing super eventful has happened these last 2 weeks.

Kirstin's baptism is still up in the air. We are waiting to get word back from the mother. We will learn more about it later today.

We took a 1 1/2 hr car ride up to Cleveland to get a CAT scan and then came back down. Took up a huge chunk of our day. Waiting for results.

Christmas is coming up so also is the Kirtland Nativity event.  Nearly 1000 Nativities from across the world here at Kirtland.  That is our new finding tool and we are really trying to get people to come.

We met a guy named Rob who we are probably going to start meeting with this week. He wasnt to change his life and we just happened to stumble upon him during exchanges.

Anyways, that was it. I'll email y'all next Thursday maybe...

God's face in the clouds

Once again someone showed me that same YouTube video on God's face in the clouds.  This guy was again crazy and again believed that the world was coming to an end.

This week has been a great week.  We met with Michael and he came to church! He has a baptismal date for the 10 December.  The coolest thing is that it was because we were working with less actives and working around that area.  When I was chillin' with President Brown for a week in the mission home he talked about trying to get addresses and working around their area (the doctrine of proximity).  It works!

With that same doctrine of proximity we had this less active family we were trying to hunt down in Brewster. We knocked on the neighbor and she knew exactly where they went.  We went and we found them! They are a part member family that hasn't been found for about 2 yrs.  We are going to start teaching them and hopefully go forward.

Part Member families! Elder Gong came out with a statistical report about he Part Member families in our mission.  Supposedly there are a lot and so we are asked to focus on them and to work with them to make them full active families.  This has really been shown this last week too.  We went all the way out to the edge of our area to start teaching the Arnold family.  Brother Arnold is a member but his wife is not. We are starting to focus on her and work with her to try and help her.  Sadly in the past her church offended her so she has this belief that she can just have church at home.

We went and stopped by another Part Member family (Metcalf) and offered to do service.  We were to rake their leaves.  When we came the next day we raked with two eleven yr old twin girls.  It was so much fun and we started talking with them.  They were so adorable (not to be creepy).  We didn't get any real appointment but we did make way with the kids.  We will work with them to make it go forward.

Also we are working with another part member family (Herrick).  We are working with the mother of the family.  We connected really well because we just laughed with them.  The mother is a member but doesn't really have a testimony.  The kids are the ones that aren't baptised but the mother is holding them back.  We are going to compete with our chocolate chip cookie recipe and also our buckeye recipe. We think that could be a good way to get in.

It really is amazing how if you follow your leaders you are blessed.  That is shown a lot this last week and in the coming weeks.

"35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:
36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.
37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?
38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?
39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?
40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me." (Matthew 25:35-40)
Heard this a lot this week and I just really

A good drop reason.....I guess

Looking on the road this last week I realised that the signs are as crisp as they could be.  I can see pretty well but in a distance it is starting to get harder to see.  So who knows this next year if I need glasses or not.

My headaches are gone for the most part. My jaw doesn't hurt either.

Overall life is back to normal.  Nothing too crazy is happening and I am in an area that is not too crazy.  It's weird.  Sure we have more poor but nothing compared to the last 16 months of my mission.

So this week we have been really organising the ward directory and all that fun stuff.  We find a lot of moved less active and so we knock on the neighbors and try and get info. That is what we do.

While visiting less actives we met a guy named Michael.  He was looking for direction during his time of Spiritual Warfare.  We were able to teach the Restoration and give him a Book of Mormon.  We will be working further on.

We also have Julio.  We didn't meet with him this week but we found him again! He was out of town but he is still super solid.  He really wants to change and we will be meeting with him this next week.

A lot of what we are doing now is finding.  We are back to tracting, which I haven't done in a long while.  It's quite fun but I do miss Cleveland.  I miss the shops and the areas to contact at.

"That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us: For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring." Acts 17:27-28

3 weeks...

It has been about 3 weeks since I last emailed. I might have shared some other stuff and it might be repeat but here is what happened.

I don't remember what happened before conference except that we biked and we talked and we biked some more but conference night I semi remember.  The sun was setting but we had an appointment we set in the projects of Cleveland on the East side.  He was reading the Book of Mormon and so we couldn't ditch him.  We went. I felt comfortable being in that area because I have been in the area 6 months and felt apart of the culture.  Well he flamed us and we were on our way back to the bikes. (It still is hard writing this.  I can speak it but writing is a lot harder) On our way a group a people. Don't know who they were said that there were 2 white boys. I knew right then that we were going to be jumped.  We stumble back to our bikes and by that point they say that they wanted them.  We gave them and all I wanted to do was have it be peaceful and just give them the stuff.  Well they took the bikes and they started to grab us and the last thing I remember is someone reaching into my wallet.  The next thing I remember was stumbling 3 times to the nearest building.  The next thing I remember was sitting down and throwing up in a rubbish bin.  The ambulance took me from there on to the hospital.  First to the Cleveland Clinic then to University Hospitals. The UH has a better trauma center.  The next 8 hrs flew by so fast.  I was in the ER. I got an awesome neck brace that was so uncomfortable. I got a Priesthood blessing in there.  Next I moved to the ICU. I was luckily only there for a short period of time.  That was a miracle of itself.  I got out of there a lot sooner than the doctors expected.  Then I got my room and I stayed there until Tuesday.  I had 2 IVs. The IVs didn't hurt as bad as I remembered and I didn't faint from them either!! I was drugged up and weak.  I learned that I had a fractured skull and a lot of other fun things happen to me. I had to get stitches on my nose.  I learned a week later that I chipped my front tooth.  Not too bad though. I have a bump over my left eyebrow. I also had a lot of scaring which is now gone just red marks left.  Anyways by Tuesday I was able to get out of the hospital.  This was so great. As much as I love hospitals I don't like being admitted into them.  So from then on I have been recovering and now I am back out working again in the Massillon ward.

So while all this happened I learned the importance of prayer and Priesthood blessings. They really do help and really do bring strength.  People were told and I got visitors and also cookies.  Sadly I had no appetite for cookies. Still so grateful though.

When I got out of the hospital I spent a week being an office Elder.  It was so much fun!!! I got to party with President and Sister Brown, The Leavitts, Harveys, Sister Allred, and Sister McGlaughlin (pardon my spelling). I lived in the mission home and overall I was spoiled for a week. I saw what went on and how much work they put forth to run a mission.  I also saw the new Rav4 that the mission got. It ended up going to the Assistance which is another story of itself.  I was able to sweet talk the vehicle coordinator for that.

So this last week I learned that I had to get my stitches out because they weren't the ones that get dissolved.  Monday night rolls around and I was supposed to go to Massillon Tuesday.  We decided to have President Brown take out my stitches.  He said that he has taken out horses stitches before so this shouldn't be any big deal. He would twist their ears or kick them in the gut if they didn't cooperate. He only kicked me in the gut once.

Being in Massillon has been a struggle but also nice.  It is really nice to be back in an area where I can work and do stuff but a struggle because it's back to reality(started singing that Eminem song).  I have headaches on a daily basis and now maybe something is wrong with my jaw.  It is just a struggle. I just work through it.

I did go on exchanges with the Zone Leaders and I went with Elder Gledhill.  At the end I was convinced that he was Sarah Wilson in guy form.  Totally similar.  Big into musicals and just so much in common.

Also on that exchanged I learned about the power of forgiveness. I was in the same apartment with someone I didn't have the greatest relationship with from the past.  After being around him I was able to find forgiveness and then I had to confront him. It was so hard at first. I couldn't even look at him.  Luckily things did change and I realised I didn't have anything against him anymore at the end.  It just was another great testimony of the Atonement.  It work!

Oh so Massillon is a mixture between all different classes.  It is different then Cleveland. I am coming to love it. I will continue to go forward and to see what it brings.

I finally got a haircut today. The lady who cut my hair did a good job which made me happy but she hates silence.  She was just all over in her conversation.  I told her that I had a fractured skull and so that story had to be told.  She said that she was jumped once but that she used a brick and hit someone in the side with it.  Then she said kidding.  As time progressed it went racial for a second and then sexist and just all over.  She even asked if Elder Beavers was my boyfriend. She thought we were gay. It just was funny.

"And I was led by the Spirit, not knowing beforehand the things which I should do.  Nevertheless I went forth, and as I came near unto the house of Laban I beheld a man, and he had fallen to the earth before me, for he was drunken with wine." 1 Nephi 4:6-7  Still love this scripture and especially those four words.

Zach Oct 3, 2016, 12 hours after attach
Zach Oct 11, 2016 8 days after attach.

Bill Reynolds shared a scripture with us that he came across in the temple a week after this had happened. He said he immediately thought of Zach when he read this passage of scripture.
3 Nephi 21:9-10
For in that day, for my sake shall the Father work a work, which shall be a great and a marvelous work among them; and there shall be among them those who will not believe it, although a man shall declare it unto them.
But behold, the life of my servant shall be in my hand; therefore they shall not hurt him, although he shall be marred because of them. Yet I will heal him, for I will show unto them that my wisdom is greater than the cunning of the devil.

Dumb Dingo Things

This was a quote someone used at the pulpit this last Sunday during fast and testimony meeting.  it sort of fits our week.

I cannot say what the ultimate highlight of the week was but I have two that really stand out.

The first one is that we went to Kirtland!! We took a tour and that was such an awesome experience.  I absolutely felt the Spirit and just the joy of it.  Jessi, who we took with her boyfriend Spencer, loved it and really related to Ann Whitney.  Such a great experience to be so close to something so powerful.

The other one is not even kinda spiritual.  One day we went to an appointment.  We locked our bikes on a main busy street in front of a Kingdom Hall.  I read somewhere that that is the best place to part the bikes so therefor they aren't stolen.  So we tract the houses and we find an awesome potential.  We knocked on our investigators house and get flamed.  Not a big surprise.  We go back to our bikes which are still there to find something missing.  It wasn't the front tire and it wasn't our helmets. They stole our bike seats.  Out of everything on the bike they steal our bike seats.  Why would someone do such a dumb dingo thing? Anyways the miracle behind it is that we had an extra one at the apartment and I got mine fixed for $0.

That was pretty much our week.  A lot of this week was trying to meet with investigators who we picked up last week.  Our issue is that we can find very easily but finding people who will be committed in a week is a lot harder.  It's the problem with this area.  We will keep going forward though because we do see a lot of miracles coming out of it though.  Constantly sifting through the wheat and the tares.

"Believe in God ; believe that he is, and that he created all things, both in heaven and in earth; believe that he has all wisdom , and all power, both in heaven and in earth; believe that man doth not comprehend all the things which the Lord can comprehend." Mosiah 4:9

Well I was kidnapped this week..  We were walking one day and we knew that we missed the bus.  All of a sudden this Prius with California license plates comes up and a guy said to get in the car.  We got in the car. He was a Middle Eastern guy and he stole this car from California.  So that's how that went.  It turns out he was a member from New York named Alli.

Anyways! This week was a good week.  We took a lot of members out with us teaching which was awesome. We found a lot of people to teach which is real cool!

One of these people was named Stephanie.  She was a member referral from Ashtabula and we had an awesome lesson with her and her fiancee.  Sadly we called her on Saturday and learned that her fiancee stole the car and everything from her.  She proceeded to tell us that he was on parole which was a surprise to her and that he was a drug abuser.  Quite sad. Life in Cleveland.

The Browns almost won last night!!! They crapped it in the last quarter though so I heard.

We are getting Jessi to start family history and get her to Kirtland this next week.  More updates next week.

Well that is pretty much how our week went.  A lot of contacting and a lot of referrals.  All Bible

"Now we shall say no more concerning their preaching, except that they preached the word, and the truth, according to the spirit of prophecy and revelation; and they preached after the holy order of God by which they were called." Alma 43:2

Cleve life

Nothing super eventful happened this week.

We are still meeting with Jessi and working with her family to set a date.  We are talking about Kirtland too which is fun.

We were too pushy with Jenna which made her take a step back but we are still meeting with her which is good.

We had some crazy bus rides with people.  Last Monday, oh my, this guy who hasn't showered in who knows how long made the whole bus smell.  He also was swear and yelling about crazy stuff.  It was so crazy to see. On Tuesday, we had a very overcrowded bus and also one with a lady screaming about Obama-phones.  Just so different.

I realised this week how crazy people here are.  I love them so very much but oh my they're crazy.  We have people who just run red lights.  If you honk before it's fine though.  When an ambulance comes people just stand still.  No one goes to the side so the ambulance has to honk at them.   The best is when it happens in the middle of an intersection.  Someone just stays still as the ambulance is coming right for them.  I love it here.

Well other than that, we haven't had much.  I went on exchanges with Elder Scoresby. I didn't die.  It was hot but felt good except for humidity.

Love this one,
"But behold I said unto them that: As the Lord liveth, and as we live, we will not go down unto our  father in the wilderness until we have accomplished the thing which the Lord hath commanded us." (1 Nephi 3:15)

Tuesday, September 6, 2016

Well I have officially ruined two pairs of pants because of bikes.  One I ripped a huge hole in when I went to stand up and pedal.  The other was a crash.  It all went down like 2 days ago.  It was me and my bike vs the fence and a tarp.  The fence won and I lost ending up on the floor with pass along cards all over the street.  It was one of those laugh them off things.

I love foreign people.  We met a Chinese lady on the bus who has been here since January but she said that she has been here for 1/2 an hour.  It just was one of those funny things.

Jessi's baptism this week has to be pushed.  She told her parents later on that what should have happened and so they wanted to get involved.  We are extending it but don't know how long.

We are now teaching Jenna though who is another member referral.  She dances for Cleveland Ballet and she is so awesome.  She ate up the Restoration and we just had a great spiritual lesson.

We have been working a lot with members and the one big miracle happened with Brother McClellan who we took out to go visit a referral.  We were able to contact William and he let us in.  We were the 2nd people in 4 years to enter his little apartment.  It was so cool and the member helped out so much with it.  It's amazing what happens when we do things the Lord's way.

"But if ye will turn to the Lord with full purpose of heart, and put your trust in him, and serve him with all diligence of mind, if ye do this, he will, according to his own will and pleasure, deliver you out of bondage." -Mosiah 7:33

I got a new companion. His name is Elder Wall from Murray, Utah. He has been out almost as long as I have.

We contacted a Chinese guy whose name was Haibo and I totally thought it was Haribo the gummy bear company.  I asked him if his name was like the gummy bear company.  He thought I said beer but no I was like bear.  I started saying bear, oso, grrr. It just was a mess.  Don't speak Spanish to a Chinese.

We then talked to Walter who totally was bashing on me.  He told me that ASU was an elementary school.  He also talked about how I seem like a pessimistic guy and that I would be like a cruel boss. I wasn't doing anything but still that came out.  It made me laugh in the end.

"Hotdogs cause cancer" said a paper on a lightpole. It does as much damage as smoking does.

Someone came up to us and told us that some girl in Italy knows what Jesus looks like.  She is like 6 yrs old and so we should believe her.

Jessi is progressing towards 10 September for her baptism. We got another member referral yesterday named Jenna and she wants to learn more.  She is another one in the YSA branch.  I absolutely love it.

There was something at church I really liked and I wanted to share it but really I don't remember what is was but it was good.  Anyways we talked a lot about the Plan of Salvation and how we all should know it.  We all heard it in the premortal life and so the Holy Ghost will testify that you have heard it before.  It will sound familiar.  That was one of the cool things I really remember.

O thou child of hell, why tempt ye me? (Alma 11:23) Going to start leaving with scriptures to close.

There is this place called city buddha in our area and I absolutely love it.  Anyways, things are going well.

Our investigator Teshara wanted to be baptised and we even got her a ride to church. So Sunday comes around and her mother tells us that she moved to Virginia. Big Surprise.

Jessi has a baptismal date for 10 September and she is so going to make it.

So I am doing really well but there is not much to report on.  More will come next week.

So went bowling this last week and I got a smashing score of 58.  Felt very proud. 5 gutterballs in a row.  Sadly it was worst than all the Sister missionaries scores.  Not planning on joining a bowl club.

We volunteered at Salvation army and met a girl named Tanisha there.  She was a little odd because she in the middle of our conversation asked if we were a virgin. After that she asked for our number and if we could drive.  It was a little odd and we really tried to get out of it.

Just a little update on our area.  When we receive a referral you should tract around houses because people around might be interested.  So we got this referral and the issue was that all the houses were abandoned around or torn down.  It was such a weird sight to witness.

On Monday we ate at member's house and they brought Jews with them.  It was so cool to talk to them about poetry and how much high school english classes don't do it right.  It gave me some hope.  They sadly weren't interested in the gospel.  One said that they were going to read the Book of Mormon though.

One thing I learned was that we are not God but we are his dog, we are also his frogs.  Also we are FBI and CIA. Dependent On God, Frequently Relying On God, Faithful Believers in Jesus.  It just all works out.  If I can I'll send the voice recording.

With that we had someone rap to us about Jesus.  It was so cool to hear.  I need to start recording a lot of things.

This week we were able to get in contact with someone back from 2009.  They ordered a Bible back then and never recieved it so we delivered it and taught the Restoration.  Nellie was super excited and we are going to work with her to bring her to church.

We also met Lena on the streets in East Cleveland.  She is looking for comfort because her son was murdered 6 yrs ago on the street we were actually talking on.  While we were talking a guy comes up and just waits by us.  Don't think much about it but after we finish he ask Lena if she wants to get some.  She was offended and I was shocked.  Later we saw him go down the street and perform a drug deal.  It was...#EastCleveland

It rained a lot this last week.  We went to the lake and there was huge storm that blew me away.  I have been drenched like 5+ times this week.  It is a lot of fun but hard to do work in it.

Random question of the week.  Difference between attain vs obtain.

So the Browns lost we heard.  The Indians are doing really well.  Anyways we talked to a guy who said that they are going to the super bowl this year.  He had a lot of faith.

One thing I learned is how as we do things it changes our mind.  As we talk to everyone, which is a struggle for me with East Cleveland people, it will become easier and change our behavior.  As we don't slack off and be tenacious we will change to be better. Well anyways, that is all.

tried greek yogurt and it turned out to be :p.  I did not like it very much.  I was trying to go a tad healthier but it didn't sit well in my mouth.

So this week we taught a few people.  We taught someone named Anna.  She was an investigator of the past but we haven't been able to see her.  We stopped by and she came out and said "You caught me getting high".  She had a bud in her hand and it smelled.  Well we said 5 mins and proceeded to teach her.  Well it went off on a lot of random points.

Last night we talked to another high person who said that they didn't need God.

So also this week I was called N***** 2x.  I just do not know why they need to.  I am not black but...

I learned that there are professional snapchatters.  A little odd.  We also got a new Branch president this last Sunday. More things to report on is the fact of my sinus infection I got this week.  I had such a serious headache on Saturday that not even drugs helped it.  It sucked!!!  Luckily I am feeling better and look forward to keep working.

We met this lady named Yolanda this week.  We are teaching her.  We met her at the bus stop back in June and put her in the area book and forgot about her.  Well we went through the Area Book and saw her name and called her.  Luckily we got in contact with her and we taught her the Restoration.  She is looking for a church and doesn't want to take someone's word for it.  She wants to figure it out for herself.

So the really cool thing of the week was stopping by Brother Fleming again.  It has been awhile since we have seen him and so we just stopped by.  He gladly let us in and we talked.  He hasn't been doing well due to health and he didn't really feel good when we came.  As we talked with him he mentioned how he just felt so much better as we came.  It just was so cool to see how we can change people.

Well that is it for the week.  Just go forward all of you.

The week of rebukes

So we are shorter on time today due to doing service for this lady who said it would be like 2 hours.  6 hours later we are here.

Anyways so this week we were rebuked by a crazy lady because we were trying to share the gospel to the humble people of Cleveland.  She said that these people around, including herself, were so humble and that they don't need us preaching to them.  It was hard not to laugh.  I find myself in too many of those situations.

Also during that day we had another lady tell us that we should be riding our bikes on the road.  Well I am a complete klutz and ride on the sidewalk.  She said that once we mature we can finally get to the street. Another one that made me laugh.

Again that day we had two cops stop us and completely harass (probably a lot strong term then what they did) us about how we are not supposed to solicit around this area.  it got to the point where they were going to put us in handcuffs.  In the end they turned out to be members and just giving us a hard time. It was not fun at all.

So those are the most memorable points of my week.  It has been a long fast week.  Don't really remember because I didn't write them all down.  I wrote funeral for something but I have no idea.  I don't remember going to any of them but who knows.

So this morning I was able to read in Jesus the Christ.  It was really nice and I found something cool I liked about prayer.  It was talking about how God without prayer would still be God but us without prayer will not be able to obtain eternal life. i just found it so cool.  I have been focus a lot on prayer and how I always have better prayers when I speak out loud.  I also see that when i pray more often the day seems to go better, we have generally better success, and I am more patient.  It just is another great witness of how prayer really helps us progress in life.

17 Miracles

Okay so my 17 miracles for the week:

1 We watched 17 miracles at church after sacrament meeting in the YSA branch!! It was so good. I was just in a cry fest during the whole thing.  I also learned that when I watch movies I like to know the end before it even gets to it.

2 So nothing huge or major happened at the RNC this week.  Sure there were some shooting but that is absolutely normal.

3 We found 2 new investigators.  There names were Karen and Heather.  We met them by biking.  They were outside doing yard work and we offered to help.  We got talking and we told Karen we could help her with her smoking habit.  She muttered something about it at the beginning and I heard it so I brought it up.  She really wants to change and it is so cool!!  The most solid investigator I have had in a long time.  She is so golden!!! Sadly she is the Sister's and we have to give it to them.

4 We found 2 more bullets this week.  We were only in our area Saturday and found the 2 then.

5 I didn't die doing service.  I worked my butt off pulling roots out of the grown.  The next day my hand hurt but it was worth it.  I also got another witness about how the construction or landscaping business is not for me.

6 Elder Scoresby ate our Liu food.  So a member gave us food and we put it on the counter and just left it there with a note saying: "Elder Scoresby Thank you so much!!! [In reference to the Gupta food (not good) they gave us] As a token of my appreciation I decided to share some of my Liu food with you. Enjoy  wuv -Elder Vance" Well this is the same lady who made banana bread from banana peels so I didn't even touch it.  Elder Scoresby ate it and said it was so bad.  It was a miracle I didn't try it.

7-14 Each and every day I woke up.

15-16 Hair removal.

17 Hey so Trust in God.  Don't do crystal meth.  The 120's is not the way to go.

Republican Convention 2016

So with the Republican Convention I will not be able to go to my area/ward.  We cover the whole Cleveland 3rd ward so there will be no work done in that ward.  So sad but it is for our safety.  Also with the RNC we had a Senator Mike Lee at church with us.  Him and all his delegates were here representing the state of Utah.  It was just cool to see him.  I didn't have my camera so I didn't take a selfie with him.

Continuing on the RNC there was a big poster in the sky saying Hillary for Prison 2016.  It just is getting more and more wild.  I heard they have barriers in Cleveland and a lot of cops.  We saw a lot of national guard out too.

So last week we heard a song at H&M about Ain't your momma. It is probably popular but look it up.  Don't know who sings it but it was catchy enough to be singing it all week.

We met with Alisa again and it was a great experience.  The world is getting really hard for her.  She is about to become a grandmother while she is in her 30s.  She was very sad when we met with her but the cool thing is that by the time we left she was a lot more positive.  It is amazing what the Spirit does.  Also we went back the next day to give her the book of mormon stories book and her whole countenance just lightened up.

So a lot of next week will be finding.  That is all I will do.  I will just be finding with my companion of 3 transfers Elder Welsh.  It will be so good.  Like vacation but also a lot of learning.

I learned something new this week.  I learned that every time you fast in order to have a complete fast you need to pay the fast offering.  I did not know that.  It was a big debate that still could be going on if I wanted it too. I'm just accepting the fact that I have been doing a fast wrong most of my mission. Sure I pay the designated fast but other fast I do not.  If you listen you learn something everyday.

Nevertheless I went forth,
