East Cleve!!!!

I am not dead yet!!!! I survived my first five days here on the East side.  I have had Chipotle twice.  One of them was free.  I have biked so much that I don't ever want to bike again but luckily I have to.  I am in a biking busing area and it is killing me!!!!  We have so much to do that I have to bite my tongue because it takes forever to get there.  It just is a little infuriating.

Otherwise my area is a mix between college and full out ghetto.  I love the college campuses, we have Case Western, Cleveland State, and Cleveland University Hospital.  It just is great to be around those areas but sadly that is where work really isn't.  We instead go to the full blown out ghetto areas.  I am learning to get used to it.  I am scared of course because for the first time I am a minority.  I have this mental issue with it that I just sooooo need to get over.  I am terrified of a whole bunch of black people.  Not good.  One way I have found to get over it is just to talk to people.  That is the best way to get to know them.

So my new companion is Elder Welsh.  He is so hip!!! He was born in Ethiopia and was adopted and came to California at the age of 15.  He is so fun and we end up laughing a lot.  We are also in an apartment with two other elders and we party all the time with them.  Elder Welsh has been out for about 6 months.

Oh so my first day here I was cursed out on the bus because I was a mormon missionary.  Also during the week we were told that the prophets were wrong by a less active.  He was held up on stinkin polygamy.  It has been coming up a lot where I am.  It was really quite sad.

So right now we are teaching a someone named Linda.  She was taught by the other missionaries and we are working with her to get her to change her life.  She wants to be baptised but has a long way to go.  We taught the Word of Wisdom to her and it was difficult.  She didn't see any problem with coffee.  She is trying to cut down smoking.  It is really good for her and it will be so great to bring her closer.

So most of this last week we have been trying to contact 38 referrals.  That is way too many but we are contacting them by bike.   That is much of what our week has been.  I love this area and look forward to continue working here.

So yesterday I taught a lesson in church.  That was a really good experience.  I didn't do absolutely horrible this time.  Sometimes when I teach I think that all I am doing is lecturing but this time I actually did better.  It is amazing what preparation and praying really does help.  I related this back to when I was in school are really didn't want to do anything the night before but that I can do it in the morning.  It most of the time ended up bad.  When one prepares and continues to prepare and then prays for help and guidance then you can do many miracles.  If you ask Heavenly Father, who so badly wants to help, for help he will so greatly help you along your ways.  He will help you in any situation and I really saw that this week.

Well I am really working on keeping my eye single to the glory of God even more now then before.  It really does help when you have a perspective that God has.

Happy Birthday?

So I had written down Happy Birthday.  I don't really know what reference it has but happy birthday to all of you who had or are having birthdays.

So for all y'all I am being transferred to the Kirtland Stake.  I am going to Cleveland 3rd also known as East Cleveland.  It happens to be in the Kirtland Stake which makes me laugh in a way.  Well now I will have a lot of more stories to tell.  It will be exciting.

So Vince we have set for a baptismal date of May 14th.  He is progressing but also doing it very slowly.  He has come to church now 3 times and we are trying to make it constant.  It is taking a lot of faith but I do believe he can make it.  We need to do our part to help him.

Oh so now we are famous about our buckeyes.  We made some last Monday and brought them to a scout auction.  We are now famous.  It was really good to help a cause.

So there is not much we have to talk about this week.  I went on exchanges with the Zone Leaders which was exciting.  I learned a lot from that.  We have biked a lot and so my tan is starting to fill in.  I am finally done wearing thermals until late September.  I still love chocolate cake.  Some member gave us another one and of course I ate it.  The grass is really green.

The new correction we are getting from our leaders is to go at their pace.  We should take them to the next step.  We should not tell them to come to church when they are not even close to it.  When they still have a whole bunch of barriers for them to get over.  That is what was so great about he Book of Mormon heroes/missionaries.  They always knew where the next point was and helped the people get to it.  Look at Aaron who taught the basic principle of God when really he could have talked about anything else.  We need to take where people are at and go to the next step.  We also need to look at ourselves and go to the next step.  One cannot become buff without making little changes in our life.  It is a process.  That is what we have been really focusing on.  Where is there next step?

Well I am doing well.  Still on a mission.  Still teaching people and I look forward to the fun adventure in East Cleveland. Also still keeping my eye single to the glory of God.

I am feeling existential and exhausted today so don't expect that long of a letter.

Well we didn't go golfing this last week.  Supposedly it was too cold and wet so instead we played volleyball inside.  It was fun and then we had frozen yogurt afterwards.  I realized how much I prefer frozen yogurt over ice-cream.

Also this week we had a member have a breakdown and almost take her name off the list.  That was scary.  She canceled our meal appointment and everything so we called her and she said that she was taking her name off the list.  It was quite sad but she ended up not.

I heard a story that so tops that of the Glass Castle.  An investigators of our's father is pretty messed up.

Brad came to church.

We learned about which is so cool.  Just use it people.

Alma 13:28 was my scripture of the week again.  Just keep praying and going forward and I know it will all improve. Trying to keep my eye single to the glory of God.

Just for all those out there in the world it's Alzheimer's not Alltimers. Heard it this week and weeks past and it just makes me cringe.  Anyways I had a good week.

I was going to start of with no me gust gatos volume 3 but I decided not.  We ended up going back this time and I just about threw up.  There was a dog that was eating crusty cat poop in front of us.  I realise how so very blessed I am to live a clean life in a clean apartment that could be a lot worst.  I am so very grateful for not being able to have pets on a mission.

We ate at this place called YumYummy.  Just the name of it turns me off.  I was so scared to go it it because the sign has a picture of yogurt and Chinese food.  It was quite scary but turned out to be so fun.  The food was delicious but the lady that owns the place was so crazy.  We get there and we, because we are poor, wanted 4 plates of food for 6 people to split.  Sure not the smartest idea on our part but she was starting to get riled up.  She kept wanting us to get appetizers and was like you have to. This of course in a Chinese accent.  I just felt so embarrassed. Well time goes on and she is fine with it.  Later she warms up to us and starts talking to us about how she is going to vote for Clinton.  We are all trying our hardest not to laugh.  About 5-10 mins later there comes a huge storm with snow and super strong winds.  We try to go outside because we were done but she would not let us.  We were held hostage in a Chinese restaurant.  It was so crazy.  Later she ends up giving us a free plate of food that none of us wanted.  We were so grateful for her and wanted a picture with her but she refused saying that she was to ugly to take picture. Oh boy was that an experience I can never forget.

So this week has been a slower week for us.  People have been on spring break which I think shouldn't have affected us but did.  Who knows? It just wasn't as great as it could have been.

Conference was great and we were able to get Vince to come. It was so great for him. At first we called him in the morning and told him about it and he said that he most likely won't. That ended the conversation until about 10 mins later when I just felt like I needed to really get him to come. We called him again and then testified over the phone about how conference really helps so much. He ended up coming to the one at 4 and afterwards he wanted a CD of all the conferences. I was just so excited and I love the Spirit. It helps with missionary work so much!!!

No one else came to conference.  It made me so sad.  They can't take 2 hours out of their 168 hours for the week to come to conference.  Just a little upsetting.

So it's been raining a lot here.  We have puddles full of it and also I have been playing in it as well.

So I cannot say that I have a favourite talk from conference.  I just absolutely love them all.  I think my favourite humour one was Elder Mazzagardi just because he said that he was living on the East coast legally. We were laughing because at that moment he should have looked at the prophet and winked at him implying that he was lying.  Anyways, they were all so good. There is just so much we can take in, it reminds me of 2 Kings 5. This happens to be the story of Naaman and how he wouldn't listen to the prophet on some simple thing but end up doing it and is blessed.  We related that to Conference and how we need to take the little things from Conference that we have learned no matter how small and apply them to our lives.  Sure in a heartbeat we would all move to Missouri but are we willing to give up 2-3 hrs of our week to serve others in our neighborhood or do something for a refuge?  If we are so willing to do the big stuff if we are asked why don't we do the little stuff we are asked? There is just so much little stuff to improve and I know that as we do the little stuff our Spirit will start being free from the leprosy that it has be being built up. I continue to keep my eye single to the glory of God.
